SPF - Sun Protection Factor
Think of the SPF as a multiplier. This number is found by measuring the difference between how long the skin takes to burn without protection, compared to how long it takes to burn wearing the given sunscreen formula.
For example, if your skin can usually last 10 minutes before burning, it would take approximately 150minutes to burn wearing a SPF15. This works the same for SPF30 and SPF50.
However it is recommended to reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours. Please read and follow the instructions on your chosen sunscreen.
Also important to remember if you are wearing a chemical sunscreen you have to wait 15-20 minutes after applying the sunscreen before going into the sun. Where as a physical sunscreen or mineral sunscreen like zinc protects you straight away.
